Windswept

I know what you want. You want a story that won’t surprise you. That will confirm what you already know. That won’t make you see higher or further or differently. You want a flat story. An immobile story. You want dry, yeastless factuality.

excitement
dancing to the beat of independence
and that feeling
that feeling of being ushered into a waterfall
as each cold splash hits the body
no planning, no decisions, just jump

but slow and steady flows the river
the crashing onto rocks smooths jagged edges
an embrace of righteousness
love
the unbreakable bond of experience and stilts

the barrel rocks from side to side
until tsunamis roll in and shatter the heart
for now, just be.

——

my mind is more jumbled than it should be.
